Creating unique opportunities

Our Vocational and Career/Technical education program offers innovative on-site training opportunities and enhanced offerings through the School-Based Training Center. The School-Based Training Center offers our students real-world work experience in the customer relations, culinary arts, retail, hospitality management and barbering fields that are open to the public.

The Program

The established CTE program at CSA continues the tradition of helping youth succeed by offering training that can culminate with nationally recognized certifications. Through the varied CTE offerings, students are able to choose from an array of vocations for relevant career tracks that spark a student’s interest.

Canyon State Academy’s CTE Program includes:

    A+ Certification

    This CTE prepares students for the nationally recognized A+ accreditation.  Students in this CTE learn four basic areas of computer repair: hardware, software, networking and security.

    Automation/Robotics

    The automation/robotics program applies automation skills to basic precision manufacturing principles and technical skills. Students will be prepared to apply their skills of electronics, hydraulics, mechanics, pneumatics to inspect, troubleshoot, program, install, modify or repair robotic systems and machines.

    Automotive Technology

    Students learn the basics of auto repair through practical, hands-on shop experience while earning an ASE Certification in brakes, Tire Breakdown and Repair, Vehicle Maintenance, Basic Welding and Power Tools.

    Barbering

    The barbering program is licensed by the State of Arizona with reciprocity in 26 states. Over 120 students have received their barbering license since this program’s inception.

    Computer Business

    This introductory CTE gives students instruction on the Microsoft Office Suite, an introduction to Adobe Photoshop and basic keyboarding skills.

    Construction Technologies

    The construction technologies program is designed to prepare individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in the building industry which includes safety, framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, welding, scaffolds, ladders and roofing. This CTE and certification is offered through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

    Culinary Arts

    Culinary Arts students earn National ServSafe Food Handlers Certification which includes Knife and Cooking Skills, Personal and Banquet Style Serving and a Restaurant Operations Certification.

    Equestrian Science

    This functioning lesson and training program teaches students to groom, ride and care for horses, as well as instruction on general farm maintenance while exposing students to equine professionals including: farriers, veterinarians, trainers and horse haulers. At the completion of the program, qualifying students are eligible for a paid internship at a competitive show barn.

    Family/Consumer Science

    Through this unique blending of curriculum, students learn to manage personal health and wellness while gaining independent living skills.  Topics include: childhood development, parenting, food & nutrition, sewing machine operations, culinary arts and grocery planning.

    Graphic Arts

    This CTE provides students with a general knowledge of graphic art and design as well as mastery of the following applications: MS Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop.

    Hospitality Management

    The hospitality management program is designed to prepare students for employment in positions that provide customer-focused services in restaurants and hotels. The hospitality management program incorporates the management, marketing and operations of restaurants and other food service-related industries.

    Lifeguard Training

    Lifeguard training includes CPR certification for the professional rescuer, First Aid certification for the First Responder and certification by the American Red Cross. Additionally, students are certified to use a Lifeguard AED (Automated External Defibrillator.)

    Media Productions

    This CTE provides students with instruction in video and photographic production and editing, and encourages mastery of Adobe Premier Pro software. Through hands-on projects, students learn the basics of layout, composition, audio editing training, green screen taping and editing, special effects, textiles and blending files.

    Personal Training

    This multi-disciplinary CTE integrates anatomy, physiology and kinesiology to instruct students on how to design a safe and effective training routine based on individual client goals.  Nutrition, resistance training, pre- and post fitness assessments and assisting/leading workout groups are a part of this unique curriculum.

    Pool Maintenance

    This CTE offers a National Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) certification through apprenticeship in pool operations includes essential water calculations, water balance and chemical testing, filtration maintenance, record keeping, general facility maintenance and facility safety.

    Safety Technologies

    This CTE offers students  10 and/or 30–hour OSHA certification in General Industries or Construction. Training includes instruction on: blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, ergonomics, machine safety, material handling, industrial hygiene, welding and cutting, electrical, general industry standards and more. This CTE is offered through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

    Welding Technologies

    This CTE and certification is offered through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and introduces students to several welding techniques, including: arc and resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding, welding processes, heat treating and structural design safety.
